THE Mayor of Barnsley officially opened a refurbished park in Athersley recently.

A number of trees have been planted alongside additional safety measures.

Coun Mick Stowe, the Mayor of Barnsley, was joined by St Helen Couns Sarah Tattersall, Dave Leech and Neil Wright.

A spokesperson for the council said: “The refurbishment has included new safety surfacing and access paths, new play equipment, fencing and seating.

“A total of 21 new trees have been planted in the area, along with spring daffodils, to brighten the space.

“The park has been named ‘Kids Community Park’ by the children from Newstead Primary School.”
