A COUPLE from Wombwell who met in Wombwell Park as teenagers celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary yesterday.
Jean Venables, 80, and her husband 83-year-old Alan tied the knot at Wombwell Parish Church on June 15, 1963.
Now living in Bolton-upon-Dearne, the pair received a letter from King Charles this week to mark the occasion.
Jean said: “The letter from the King was one of the most important things for us.
“We met in Wombwell Park when I was around 14 or 15.
“We’ve stuck it out and we’ll continue to stick it out.
“All you need is some patience and tolerance and we’ve definitely got that.
“Anyone who says they’ve never had an argument, well that must be boring.”
