A CHARITY which supports people with disabilities to access and enjoy the countryside is coming to Barnsley.

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund’s Know Your Neighbourhood scheme, Open Country have secured backing to run a two-year satellite project in Barnsley.

After recruiting a part-time Countryside Activities Officer this month, the charity are now ready to offer various taster sessions to the Barnsley community.

These activities will include adapted cycling, weekday walking, conservation project work, wheelchair-accessible outings, adventure sports and more.

Ella Dixon, project officer for Open Country, said ‘’After seeing the success of our Wakefield project over the past five years, it is really exciting to now offer the people of Barnsley great outdoor experiences with us too.

“We need lots of support from new volunteers to run these various sessions so if you fancy helping out, please do get in touch.”
