TRUSTEES at a valued community farm who made the decision to close last month due to the current financial crisis have now successfully rehomed its animals.
Grimethorpe Community Farm, which was based on the grounds of Milefield Primary School – closed in February with the promise of relocating the animals to an alternative farm.
Coun Jeff Ennis, who is also the chair of the farm’s steering group, said he was ‘deeply saddened’ by the closure, but explained it was necessary.
“I am pleased to announce that all the remaining animals on the farm have been successfully rehomed around Barnsley,” Jeff said.
“I want to say a huge thank you to the individuals who have come forward to look after these much-loved animals and I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank the former trustees and volunteers for all the time and effort they’ve put in over the years to make the farm such a roaring success.”
The Mayor of Barnsley, Coun Sarah Tattersall, has agreed to sponsor a Civic reception for everyone involved in the running of the farm, which will take place in the town hall on Wednesday, April 12.
