BARNSLEY College has become one of just a handful of further education venues in the country to bag a top industry accreditation.

Having gained ‘member’ status,- given by the Chartered Institution for Further Education (CIFE) to just 17 other colleges in the country – it was lauded as one of the top achievements in its 90-year history.

Principal Yiannis Koursis OBE accepted the award at a ceremony at Apothecaries’ Hall in London.

He said: “We’re exceptionally proud to have been recognised for our contribution to further education.

“I would like to thank the CIFE in recognising all that we do to transform lives in Barnsley and the wider community, and to our staff and students for their tireless work and dedication which makes Barnsley College a great place to work and learn.”

CIFE is the only organisation that can grant ‘chartered’ status to colleges and training providers.

Its deputy chair, Dawn Ward CBE, said she was ‘delighted’ the college had been granted membership.

She added: “The institution represents all that is great about our sector, and I know that Barnsley College and their reputation of excellence will only add to this.

“We look forward to working with the college so that we can continue to represent excellence in our sector and give a platform to celebrate the ongoing successes of further education.”
