THE Mayor of Barnsley is inviting residents to attend the annual Civic carol service next Thursday.

Kicking off at St Mary’s Parish Church, on Church Street, at 3.45pm, the service will be led by Fr Jay Lawrence Hewitt and Fr Peter Needham.

Mayor Coun Sarah Tattersall said: “I’m really looking forward to Barnsley’s Civic Carol service and feel truly honoured to be part of it as Barnsley’s mayor.

“It’s such a lovely opportunity to bring our residents and communities together under one roof – and then raise it with some traditional festive carols.

“This year’s carol service is particularly special as it’s the first one we have been able to hold face-to-face since before the pandemic.

“So, it also represents unity and strength as we are able to come together once more to share such a wonderful time of year.

“We hope to see the church packed with families taking a break from wrapping presents to reflect and celebrate before the big day itself.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very healthy, happy Christmas and a very happy 2023.”
