PRIDE Barnsley is due to start on Saturday for a day of celebrations.

Running from 12-5pm, the event, celebrating queer life and culture, will take place at Mandela Gardens and is free to attend.

With two stages, stalls, and a family friendly fashion show at the Civic from 1pm it is set to be a fun-filled day for all.

The event takes place as part of Barnsley's Big Weekend, with a huge line-up of free entertainment taking over the town centre.

Coun Robert Frost, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture at Barnsley Council said: "It's great to see people come together, our communities are united by a shared sense of pride in the borough, and we are proud to have an inclusive, exciting and welcoming family-first town centre.

"Please come along and enjoy what it has to offer."
