A NEW cycle hub for Barnsley Hospital staff was officially opened this week.
The hub, which features two-tier cycle racks to accommodate 32 bikes, also has four charging point for electric bikes, a tyre pump, tools and a repair station.
The opening is linked to the trust’s ‘Green Plan’ which commits to achieving net zero by 2040.
Tom Davidson, the hospital’s director of IT, said: “The opening of the new Barnsley Hospital staff cycle hub is the latest demonstration of the trust’s commitment to reducing our travel-related environmental impact and improving air quality.
“We are delighted to bring this new facility for our staff to be able to store their bikes safely and securely.”
Dr Tony Shaw, who cut the ribbon at the ceremony on Tuesday, added: “This is a fantastic safe and secure facility exclusively for staff use.
“The new cycle hub will encourage more staff to leave their cars at home and cycle to work.”
