A BARNSLEY man who bribed children to perform sexual acts on him has been found guilty of child sexual offences.

Mark Butterworth, 28, formerly of Lilac Crescent in Hoyland, committed a range of ‘harrowing’ offences against two victims – who were aged between nine and 12 at the time – over an eight-year period.

Butterworth was found guilty of 19 offences at Sheffield Crown Court on February 8 following a seven-day trial.

These include four counts of causing a child to watch a sexual act, three counts of rape of a child under 13, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of sexual assault of a child under 13.

The court was told how between 2007 and 2015 he sexually abused his victims repeatedly, bribing them to perform sexual acts on him in exchange for time on his PlayStation.

Butterworth is now detained in prison following his conviction and will appear in court on April 29 for sentencing.
