BARNSLEY Council has planned a host of events as the town supports LGBT+ month in February.

A rainbow flag will be raised above the town hall next week and the building will be lit up in rainbow-coloured lights.

A few of the events planned include book displays in local libraries, a themed display in Experience Barnsley and a series of programmes at the Civic.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for adults and communities, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting LGBT+ History Month again this year - it’s a fantastic opportunity to promote equality and diversity in our communities.

“LGBT+ History Month is a time where we can celebrate Barnsley’s LGBT+ heritage and present-day communities.

“I am therefore very excited to see so many events planned across our borough, bringing people together to learn about the history and achievements of our LGBT+ communities.

“We are delighted to be raising the rainbow flag on our historic town hall - a symbol of communities coming together to learn more and support one another.”
