A MATURE student with a passion for helping others has put together care packages for rough sleepers.

Tracy Gibson, 53, studies humanities and social science at Northern College, Stainborough.

Hopeful adult support worker Tracy spends her spare time volunteering at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court while thinking up schemes to support various causes – the most recent being the Barnsley Rough Sleepers Project.

Alongside her studies – and with the help of staff and fellow students – Tracy came up the idea of creating bags with toiletries and other items in them which will be distributed this month.

Tracy, of Brigg Street, Carlton, said: “When I go into the town centre, and see all the homeless people around especially at night-time, it makes me feel so sorry – I have got a good life.

“I came up from not having a lot of money with only maths and English.

“I’ve done a lot to do with children, but thought I’d try to do something more locally meaningful this time.

“I asked around college for donations, and some people also fetched hats and gloves.

“The college has been really supportive and they’ve supplied me with the bags.

“There are men’s and women’s bags and they’ve all got something good in them.”
