YOUNG people across the borough who want to make a difference to where they live are being encouraged to apply to a scheme that helps their voices get heard.

The Youth Council is looking for new representatives.

It's formed of a group of youngsters who are elected by their peers to represent young people in Barnsley.

This year there are three positions available in each of Barnsley's secondary schools – and each position is for a two-year seat on the council.

Anyone in year 8 or above is eligible to stand in the election and anyone aged 11-19 can vote.

If you're elected you will be required to attend one full Youth Council meeting per month, represent the views of other young people who attend your school or college and attend one campaign's committee or working group a month.
