SHAWLANDS Primary School head Duncan Thompson’s new facial hair is raising eyebrows among his students and staff – but it’s also raising funds for vital causes.

He’s one of many men in the borough taking part in Movember, which sees participants growing a moustache and raising money and awareness for men’s health charities for issues such as prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health.

Duncan – who’s experienced prostate cancer and mental health through friends and family – has raised more than £200 with a little more than a week left.

“It’s the first time I’ve had a moustache, and I think it’s going quite well – but it’ll be the last time because my wife absolutely hates it,” said the headteacher.
