THE fire service has warned residents of panic buying and storing fuel at home – which is extremely flammable.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have urged people not to store fuel around your home to prevent house fires.

Fuel and fuel vapour can be extremely flammable and explosive.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Official guidance, from the Health and Safety Executive states that you can legally only store 30 litres of petrol or diesel at a domestic residence or non-workplace.

“Up to ten litres can be stored in plastic containers, and 20 litres in metal containers.

“You should also ensure fuel is never stored within your home.

“It should be kept in a well ventilated, secure outbuilding away from any sources of ignition.”
