A MAJOR restaurant chain at the heart of the town centre’s multi-million pound regeneration scheme has gone up for sale.
TGI Fridays opened in the Glass Works in the spring of 2022 and is one of two major restaurants – alongside Nando’s – in the square.
The firm received a total of £750,000 in incentives by the council to come to the town but it’s now been revealed that all of its 87 chains in the country have been put up for sale.
Its UK owner, Hostmore, is looking to shift the brand to a fully franchise-operated business, before it is expected to be wound down, potentially leaving its shareholders with nothing.
The sale is predicted to complete by the end of the month but it’s expected to result in Hostmore being wound up and de-listed from the London Stock Exchange.
