A MAN was rescued by firefighters from a burning building in Barnsley last night.

Fire crews from Dearne, Cudworth and Tankersley stations were called out to Doncaster Road, Barnsley, at 8.40pm.

When they arrived they found a fire in the bedroom, which is believed to have been started accidentally, and saved a man before extinguishing the blaze.

They left the scene at 9.50pm.

More than half of all fires recorded last week in Barnsley were started deliberately, according to reports.

There were eight fires in total - five of which were started deliberately.

Of those eight, four were vehicle fires and two were house fires - the final two involved wheelie bins.
