POLICE officers want to urge cyclists to keep their bikes safe to prevent bicycle theft across the borough.

The force has released advice to stop cyclists from becoming a victim of theft.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Never leave your bike insecure and unattended, even for a few seconds, wherever you are.

“If you own a really valuable cycle, it may be worth storing it in the home, taking advantage of the fact that your household security will generally exceed that of your shed or garage.

“Register the details of your cycle and a photo of it at www.immobilise.com

“Use a chain, padlock and ground anchor to secure your cycle at home, in your garage or shed. And consider including your garage or shed as a zone on your household intruder alarm system.”
