YOUNG people can now travel across the borough for less as a new bus pass was launched yesterday.

The Zoom Beyond Travel Pass is available to 18-21 year-olds and allows them to travel across South Yorkshire for 80p for a single journey.

The pass can be used on both buses and trams and are valid for a year – until June 2022 or the day before the passholder's 22nd birthday, whichever is sooner.

Anyone within the age bracket who has a 16-18 Travel pass will be sent a new Zoom Beyond pass automatically when their travel pass expires.

Dan Jarvis, Barnsley Central MP, and mayor of the Sheffield City Region said: “Local leaders and I took the decision to extend this concession to cover everyone aged 21 and under in South Yorkshire because while the past year has been tough on us all, it’s been particularly tough for young people.

“I’ve promised to do all I can to help our young people. I hope this helps to get everyone where they want to be, whether that’s college, work or even just to see each other after a series of lockdowns.

“I also hope this will help get people back on the buses and support the system as a whole. As government support is reduced we need to make sure we get passenger numbers back up as quickly as possible so we can maintain the financial viability of the network and head off the associated traffic congestion and air pollution that comes from a dependency on cars.”
