A CONSULTATION to gather views on the Carlton masterplan - which will bring 2,000 homes to the area - started earlier this week.

The consultation will run until July 28 and residents can view the proposals, read the FAQs, access the survey, and sign up to the live question-and-answer sessions on the council’s website.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Council said: “Carlton’s new development will deliver a sustainable new community, focused around Wharncliffe Woodmoor as the key greenspace.

“It will provide high-quality housing within a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly environment and be linked to the surrounding outdoor spaces such as Carlton Marsh Nature Reserve and the National Cycle Network.

“The site also provides renewable energy opportunities, which are being explored.

“The proposals also include land for business expansion, in an area where local businesses are currently thriving.

“This is your opportunity to provide feedback on the proposals for the future development of the site, which was allocated as part of Barnsley’s Local Plan.”
