A ROAD was closed earlier today after a collision involving a ten-year-old boy in Darfield.

Police officers were called to Doncaster Road, in Darfield, at 8.24am this morning (June 8) after reports of a collision between the youngster and a vehicle.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “The pedestrian, a ten-year-old boy, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

Coun Trevor Smith added: “Something needs to be done about the traffic on that road.

“We don’t want any more people getting hurt. I believe the speed limit needs to be lowered and speed measures in place.

“Darfield is the only small town that doesn’t have any controlled signals - traffic is building up on Barnsley Road. People are taking their lives in their hands.”
