POORLY children at Barnsley Hospital were given an unexpected Easter-themed surprise thanks to a donation from a local supermarket.

Jack’s Supermarket, on Wombwell Lane, has donated a hamper of Easter eggs to the children in Barnsley Hospital’s children’s ward and the Children’s Hospital in Sheffield.

Father Declan Brett, of Corpus Christi Parish in Dearne Valley, collected more than 100 Easter eggs on behalf of the Knights of St Columba, the sponsoring group who established the easter egg drive.

The eggs will be donated to children in need across Yorkshire.

Marius Nae, store manager of Jack’s Barnsley, said: “Every child deserves to celebrate Easter and here at Jack’s we love putting a smile on the faces of the youngest members of our community.

“We hope the children have a brilliant Easter, and enjoy their chocolate goodies.”

Jack’s Supermarket also handed over a hamper of Easter eggs to Junior Tykes Football Club to help with their fundraising raffle which will cover costs of the training facility.
