RECYCLING centres across the borough have been temporarily closing during busy periods due to increased demand.

Barnsley Council have had to close ithe venues to manage traffic safely, and that the queue entrance may close early when the lengths exceed scheduled closure time.

There are four waste recycling centres in the town - Goldthorpe which opens at 9am and closes at 4pm, Worsbrough from 8am to 4pm, Smithies from 9am to 3.30pm and Penistone from 9am until 3.30pm.

A spokesperson for the council said: “These decisions have been made so that Covid-19 guidelines can be maintained and traffic can be managed safely.

“Our top priority is to keep the sites open, but we must make sure that they are safe to visit and that queues do not impact the roads in the surrounding areas.

“Please only visit the sites if essential, and follow the rules and guidance.”
