BARNSLEY Hospital has revealed that more than 220 babies were born last month with more than half of the newborns being girls.

The midwifery unit at the hospital reveal monthly figures detailing the different types of births throughout the month.

The team reported that 223 women gave birth throughout January, with the busiest days being January 5 and January 14 where 10 babies were born on each day.

There were more girls born than boys, with 114 compared to 111.

During January, there were 11 water births, two home births, and two sets of twins were born.

The heaviest baby weighed nine pounds and 15 ounces, whereas the smallest was born two pounds and eight ounces.
