MORE than 54 drivers were caught speeding on Barnsley roads by a Hoyland policing team last month.

The police team from Barnsley South in Hoyland prioritised speed checks following residents’ concerns.

Last month, the team performed operations on roads including Sheffield Road in Birdwell, Barnsley Road on Platts Common and Clough Fields Road in Hoyland.

Of the 938 vehicles checked in January, 54 drivers were found to be driving above the speed limit.

PCSO Shaun McDermott, from the team, said: “In January, I committed to focusing my work on the issue of speeding traffic through communities.

“This was in direct response to a number of concerns raised by the public around the speed that some motorists were travelling at through certain locations.

“Do keep in mind that these are the locations that you have told me that there is a problem.

“As always, the keepers of the vehicles that failed the speed checks will be notified by post in due course.”
