A FAMILY’S home which was once again lit up in aid of charity helped raise more than £1,500 for charity at Christmas.

Each year for the past five years, the Baumber family have created a Christmas lights display each year at their home on Long Furlong, Penistone.

Their aim is to spread cheer and to help raise money for local charities in the process.

“Usually we raise a few hundred pounds,” said dad Stephen, 40. “I put up the lights as usual this year, thinking that everyone could use a bit of cheering up with the pandemic but I never expected the response it would get.”

Stephen created a Just Giving page to help raise money, and has raised £1,513.

“We were absolutely blown away when we saw how much money had been raised,” added Stephen. “Every year we try to beat how much was made the year before, and last year we raised about £850.

“We never expected to almost double the amount we raised this year, especially because of the pandemic.”

Some of the money will go towards creating a mental health bench and any money that is left will be donated to charity.
