GRITTERS will be out in force today as temperatures continue to plummet this morning.

The gritting crews will treat the 321 miles of roads on the main gritting routes across the borough in preparation for the winter months.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Council said: “It’s been a cold night and our gritters have been out early this morning on all primary routes across the borough.

“Once we’ve gritted primary routes, in really bad weather we’ll move on to secondary routes.

“These include main roads in housing estates and other important urban and rural routes, including those linking towns and villages, and bus routes.”
