BARNSLEY Football Club legends have helped raise over £10,000 for Barnsley Hospice.
Around 250 Barnsley fans attended the evening at the Metrodome to hear stories from ex players and managers including Danny Wilson, Allan Clarke, Barry Murphy, Adam Hammill, Jon Parkin and Gerry Taggart.
The money was raised through ticket sales, a raffle and auction of Barnsley footballing memorabilia, with the event organiser, Kev Johnson, hoping the evening was the first of many.
He said: “I’m thrilled about the amount we’ve managed to raise and grateful for everybody’s support.
“I have run a few events for Rotherham Hospice with ex-Rotherham players like this and was unsure how successful we’d be coming to Barnsley, but I’ve been blown away by everybody’s kind comments on how successful the night was and everybody’s generosity.
“To raise more than £10,000 is fantastic and I’m hoping this is the first of many and we can continue to raise funds for Barnsley Hospice.”
Simon Atkinson, corporate partnership manager for Barnsley Hospice, added: “A truly wonderful night was had by all and everyone at Barnsley Hospice would like to thank Kev and all those involved who made the night the huge success it was.
“As we celebrate the hospice’s 30-year anniversary, it’s events like this that have helped us be there for the Barnsley public over the last three decades, and the £10,400 is an incredible amount that will go a long way in ensuring our vital services can continue for the people of Barnsley.”
