A BIG shout-out to a local pub which is already thinking about helping its community with winter approaching – and promising a warm welcome even if it’s just for a free cup of tea or coffee!
The Prince of Wales in Wombwell is inviting locals into the pub as part of its WARMTH WITHOUT WORRY campaign.
In a heartfelt Facebook yesterday post a pub spokesman said: “We at the Prince offer this every year but i think many more are going to be struggling. We will welcome anyone through our doors, if you live alone, would love some company, a chat, giggle or just get out.
“We have gone downstairs this morning to open the pub and realised just how close to winter we really are… The pub was cold, the weather’s only fit for the ducks and I remembered what we heard someone say last night.
‘It’s cheaper to come for a couple of pints in here where it’s warm than to put the gas on every night to sit inside’.
“What an awfully upsetting but true thing. Energy bills have soared recently which has brought on the whole ‘Cost of Living Crisis’.
“You can’t tell us we don’t all deserve to be warm and dry without the worry of the cost?”
Our doors are open seven days a week from 10.30am, we’ve got a lovely clean, dry and warm pub which we want to push into a community hub not just a pub.
“We want to be somewhere you can walk into, always see a familiar face and where it’s warm enough you don’t have to leave your coat on. You don’t even have to buy a pint you can have a free cup of tea or coffee.
“Let’s spread the warmth. We all have a right to it without the worry of the costs don’t we?”
