OFFICERS are urging motorists not to leave their cars unattended while they defrost them on a morning after a spate of thefts across the borough.

South Yorkshire Police Operational Support released the statement after reports of thefts have already been made this morning (January 6).

A spokesperson for the force said: “Do not leave your car unattended while its defrosting then expect it to still be there when you come back out to it.

“Reports are already coming in this morning of vehicles being stolen when they have been left with the engine running.

“It will be a pretty embarrassing phone call to your insurance company who will no doubt say your policy will not cover you as you have left the vehicle not secure.”
