THE Mayor of Barnsley showed her support for the town’s Christmas toy appeal this week by dropping off presents donated by the Royston Ward Alliance.
The appeal was set up by Tony Batty and Liam Hardcastle to make sure that every child across the borough has a present to open on Christmas Day – the council will provide support to distribute the toys to residents in time for the 25th.
Mayor Coun Caroline Makinson paid a visit to the Co-op in Royston to drop off the presents.
She said: “As Mayor of Barnsley and chair of Royston Ward Alliance, I’m thrilled to be supporting the toy bank appeal.
“The pandemic has increased the strain on parents to provide presents for their children this Christmas, but the generous response from residents across the borough has been outstanding.
“With my theme being children and young people, the appeal is something I feel passionate about, and it fills me with pride to know that children will not be going without a present this Christmas.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to my colleagues in the Royston Ward Alliance for their fantastic generosity donating these gifts.
“I would also like to thank Adam, the store manager at Royston Co-op, for his continued community support and for agreeing to be a drop-off point for the toy appeal.”
