APPLICATIONS are open for both primary and secondary schools in the borough for next September.

Parents and carers can apply for their child’s school place using the online portal - those who have previously used the system will need to reregister.

Applicants will receive email acknowledgement of their school preferences, with no forms being taken in to school - this removes the risk that the application will get lost.

The result of any application can be sent by email, which is quicker than by post.

Coun Margaret Bruff, cabinet spokesperson for children’s services, said: “It might feel like a long way off, but we know that starting a new school is a big milestone.

“Last year, 93 per cent of children received an offer for their first preferred primary school and 94 per cent for secondary pupils.

“It is very important that you apply on time and you should identify three preferences.

“You’ll soon receive information packs for all eligible children, but there’s no need to wait, you can still apply online before receiving your packs.”

The closing date for submissions of application is October 31 for secondary schools, and January 15 2021 for primary schools.
