AN ANNUAL golfing event that helps to raise funds for Barnsley Hospice has gone ahead today with new social distancing measures.

The ‘Annual Golf Day’, hosted by local company Lifetime Financial Planners and Silkstone Golf Club, raises hundreds of pounds each year for the local cause.

William Bottomley, director of Lifetime Financial Planners, has been thrilled that all tickets have sold out for the event despite concerns it wouldn’t go ahead.

He told We Are Barnsley: “As a local business, we’ve had connections with Barnsley Hospice for around ten years.

“It’s a great relationship where we’ve raised lots of money for the team, and this means a lot to us.

“Each year we host a golf event that’s a lot of fun where we have different teams play against one another and then have a lovely meal.

"The Lifetime team are hoping to defend their title today, but there will be some stiff competition.

“The hospice is so important in Barnsley, everybody knows somebody who has been impacted by the work they do.”

William said he was pleased that the event was able to go ahead today - despite initial concerns.

“With so much uncertainty over the recent months, we weren’t sure whether this would go ahead.

“But luckily, with social distancing in place, we’ve managed to go ahead and run the event and hopefully raise funds for the hospice.

“We can’t thank Silkstone Golf Club enough for its kindness in lending the ground for the event.”
