BARNSLEY town centre’s off-street car parks will remain free of charge on Saturdays - but a ticket must be displayed.

The council announced motorists will need to show a free ticket from the pay and display machines.

Even though it’s free, residents still need to press the green button on the machine and get a ticket to tell enforcement officers the time of arrival.

Those staying too long, or not displaying a ticket, will receive a fine.

On Sundays, or whenever the machines are covered with a yellow bag, it’s free all day.
