SELF-EMPLOYED people in Barnsley have until the end of today to claim a grant worth up to £7,500.

The Self Employment Income Support Scheme was created to help self-employed people whose income has been affected by the ongoing pandemic.

The scheme works by offering an initial grant to cover up to 80 per cent lost profits from March, April, and May up to the value of £7,500.

The deadline for this is 11.59pm tonight (July 13).

The second grant will see the government pay 70 per cent of average profits in June, July, and August.

Those who miss the closing date for the first grant may still apply for the second grant but could miss out on recovering profits from earlier in the year.

In order to qualify for the grants, the business must have been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Businesses must have also traded in the 2018/19 tax year, and intend to continue trading throughout the 2019/20 and 2020/21 tax years.
