THE Royal Mail delivery office will remain closed after concerns around a possible coronavirus outbreak.

The office on Pitt Street, closed on Monday and underwent a deep clean as a precautionary measure after positive tests were recorded.

This has caused delays to post to the S70, S71, S72, and S75 postcodes which are expected to continue.

Mick Dunlavey, the treasurer at the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU), said: “This morning (Wednesday June 24) on the grounds of safety the Barnsley delivery office will be closed.

“Cudworth and Grimethorpe will also close as a precautionary measure until full and comprehensive checks have been made.

“There will be disruptions to services but the safety of our people comes first.”

In a statement on their website, the Royal Mail said: “collections from business customers and Post Offices will be prioritised today but may be affected.”
