POSTAL deliveries across the town should be back to normal today after yesterday’s disruption.

Workers from the office on Pitt Street had to stand outside while the deep clean was carried out following positive tests for coronavirus.

A spokesperson said: “Royal Mail takes the health and safety of its colleagues, its customers and the local communities in which we operate very seriously.

“Following positive testing for coronavirus at the Barnsley delivery office, we have carried out a full, enhanced clean of the building.

“We are working to keep disruption to mail deliveries to a minimum as we address the concerns of our colleagues.”

As a result of the deep clean, yesterday the Royal Mail issued a statement which said that deliveries to the S70, S71, S72, and S75 postcodes could be delayed.

All services are now expected to return to normal.
