A MAN has died in hospital following a serious assault in Thurnscoe on Friday.

Police were called by ambulance staff at 6.55pm on Friday June 5 following concerns for a 32-year-old man who had been taken to hospital with a serious head injury. He had been found outside a property in the Houghton Road area.

He died yesterday (June 7) in hospital and detectives are now treating the incident as a murder investigation.

Four people; a 36-year old man, a 34-year-old man, and two 15-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of assault and were released on bail pending further enquiries.

A fifth person, 35-year-old man, was arrested by officers on suspicion of assault yesterday (June 7) and remains in police custody.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Formal identification and a post mortem examination are yet to take place.

“Police are keen to hear from anyone yet to come forward with information that might help the investigation.
