A KIDS’ activity group is appealing for support to put on a raft of outdoor activities once lockdown is over.

Dearne Kids, which has given the Dearne’s youngsters a place to go for decades, is hoping to put on six activity camps – catering for more than 100 children – but is asking help to raise the £7,400 needed to do so.

Ian Ball, 61, runs the popular group out of Houghton Road Community Centre, Thurnscoe.

He said: “I know a lot of parents who are on the frontlines and some have lost their jobs.

“The stress on adults has been bad, but imagine what it’s been like for the kids who have been locked up in the house for so long.

“I just want to give them a break, so they can enjoy themselves again once the lockdown is lifted.”

Ian, who reformed the group a few years ago after demand from parents, is looking to organise trips to Hesley Wood in Chapeltown, Kingswood in Doncaster and the new Gulliver’s Valley in Rotherham.

He is looking for youngsters to be nominated by voluntary groups and community sector workers in the area to go on the trips.
