BARNSLEY Central MP and Mayor of South Yorkshire Dan Jarvis spoke at a debate in Parliament on active travel.

“As mayor, I am putting active travel at the heart of my plans to build a better, more sustainable public transport system for our region,” he said.

“That means taking practical steps to enable people to walk, cycle and run - if that’s what they want to do,” said Dan.

“I have appointed Sarah Storey, Britain’s most decorated female Paralympian, as South Yorkshire’s active travel commissioner and she is getting on with the job of improving our walking and cycling infrastructure.

“I have recently submitted a bid worth over £200m to the government which, if approved, will be spent of improving transport infrastructure, including active travel, across our region.”
