BARNSLEY Market could be named the nation’s favourite after being shortlisted as one of the top 10 markets in the country.

The market was named in the top 10 after a public vote was held by The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) and they will now compete against nine others to scoop the title of the Britain’s Favourite Market 2018.

With the opening of the Glassworks in November, Coun Roy Miller is confident the market has a good chance of winning. He said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for Barnsley Market as well as our brilliant traders and customers who have continued to support the market through the redevelopment of our town centre. We’re all extremely proud of our famous market, and rightly so.

“Winning the award would be the ultimate recognition for our hardworking traders and market team. We look forward to welcoming the judges to Barnsley and showing them what we have to offer.”
