A HUB has opened for care leavers offering support, advice and guidance.

The Barnsley Care Leavers Hub, based on Regent Street, is part of the council’s Local Offer to care leavers. It provides a co-ordinated service where young people can have formal meetings with their allocated advice and support workers, as well as take part in various activities and information sessions.

The team’s whole aim is to support young people who have been in care in achieving their ambitions and aspirations.

Young people have been involved in the design of the hub which includes a shower room, laundry facilities and a kitchen to cook and make something to eat.

Coun Margaret Bruff said: “This is a most welcome resource for our young people leaving care. The transition from care to independent living can be difficult and it’s vital that we listen to what our young people are asking for.

“Care Leavers are among the the most vulnerable groups in the Barnsley community and as a corporate parent, the council is committed to improving the lives of both children in our care and care leavers.”
