A FUN festival is touring the area next month to bring a blast of street theatre and circus to town.
MAYhem is a free street theatre and circus festival coming to a high street, market square or park near you over three successive weekends in May.
Barnsley Council has engaged street theatre company Yellow Bus events to bring their unique brand of entertainment to Barnsley.
You can catch the MAYhem festival at the following venues on these dates:
Cudworth Park on Saturday May 4
Penistone Market Barn on Sunday May 5
Hoyland Town Square on Saturday May 11
Royston Park on Sunday May 12
Goldthorpe’s Horse and Groom Square on Saturday May 18
Wombwell High Street on Sunday May 19.
There will be a variety of exciting and fun acts, most of them from the Yorkshire area. You can enjoy circus-style performances in public venues and "walkabouts" by wandering performers. The entertainment, which is aimed at all generations, will run from 11am to 4pm each day.
You can go along and enjoy some amazing street theatre and circus right on your doorstep, featuring the likes of Felicity Footloose, Granny Tourismo and Dr Pandemonius Fish. And if you miss the show at one location, you can always catch up with the festival at another one.
The mini-festival will feature street performers who regularly appear at Covent Garden, Glastonbury Festival, Edinburgh Festival and major events around the world.
Matt O’Neill, Barnsley Council’s executive director for growth and sustainability, said: “MAYHEM is a great addition to the cultural offer in our Principal Towns. We want to ensure people living right across our borough have the chance to enjoy interactive and memorable cultural experiences, and I’m looking forward to seeing what chaotic fun Yellow Bus bring to our high streets and parks.
"Don’t miss this chance to have some fun and laughter with your family and friends. Come and enjoy the MAYHEM!”
The MAYHEM festival is being funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
