A GROUP of travellers set up camp at a Dodworth business before reportedly causing damage and stealing equipment, prompting a police investigation.
Officers were called to the Koyo Bearings’ premises in the early hours of last Sunday (March 17) following reports of a burglary.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “It is reported that a group of people with caravans had previously gained entry to the premises and while there broke into a property on the site.
“It’s alleged that damage was caused to electrical wires and equipment was stolen from within the building. Following the reports, an investigation has been launched. Officers also worked with local partners to remove the group and their caravans from the site.”
Coun Chris Wray, who represents the Dodworth ward, added: “Having attended on the day, I want to thank the police for their quick response and action.
“I also want to thank council officers who, despite it not being their working day, responded and acted promptly. Koyo is a valued member of the community and ward, so I hope this won't have too negative of an impact.”
