A BUSY section of road which was closed yesterday morning following a burst water main will remain shut over the weekend while repairs are carried out.

Traffic chaos has ensued on Grange Lane, Cundy Cross, with diversions put in place while Yorkshire Water engineers fix the underground pipe and damaged road. The incident occurred at about 4am and Yorkshire Water has apologised for the inconvenience.

A spokesperson said: “There was damage to the road surface caused by the water that left the network and we need to fully reinstate and resurface the section before the road can be reopened.

“The repair of the 600mm main is ongoing and our teams are expecting to complete the repair, as well as the road reinstatement and resurfacing required due to the damaged road surface, in the coming days. We are expecting the road to be safe for reopening on Monday afternoon.”
