TWO new Family Hubs which will support youngsters through to adulthood have opened.

The venues were opened with ribbon-cutting ceremonies - presided over by Coun Pauline McCarthy at the North East Family Hub in Athersley and Coun Trevor Cave at the North Family Hub in Grimethorpe - before families were invited inside to meet with a variety of expert support services.

Both openings provided fun-filled activities for families to take part in, including a gaming arcade area, cup design, badge make, singing and dancing and a foam sprayer.

These events mark the next stage in the Family Hubs and Start for Life project, which aims to provide one-stop shops for all of Barnsley Council’s family services and give support to young people from birth to the age of 19 - or 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities.

A pilot site in Worsbrough was launched in August and centres are also planned for Wombwell and Penistone.

Coun Cave, said: “There were many new and familiar faces that came along to see how they will benefit from the services on offer throughout the community.”
