A GROUP of fundraising friends from Shafton have raised almost £20,000 since they started.

Donna Laws, 57, Jane Price, 50, and Michelle Hennessy, 43, make up the group known as ‘Sassie’ and are supported by Shafton Working Men’s Club. Two of the trio have children who benefited from Barnsley Hospital’s special care facilities when they were born and this spurred on their reasons for giving back via the hospital’s charity.

Each year, Sassie organise children’s discos and family fun days to raise the vital funds to support babies and their parents with neonatal care.

This year the group are busy organising a local festival – ‘Shaftonbury’ – which will be held in Shafton Park on June 30 and handed over their latest £2,000 donation this week.

Jane Mills, Barnsley Hospital Charity’s development manager, said: “The camaraderie that Donna, Jane and Michelle have in raising the funds is a true example of community spirit at its finest. We thank them for continuing to raise funds and helping local babies and their families at one of the most critical times of their lives.”
