THE Mayor of Barnsley welcomed the new pastor of Barnsley Baptist Church to the town earlier this month.

The church, on the corner of Union Street and Sheffield Road, celebrated the induction of its new pastor Professor Dr Andrew Keay on February 17. Andrew was inducted into the ministry at the church at a special service by Rev Dr Nike Adebajo, a regional minister with the Yorkshire Baptist Association.

He has been a Professor at the University of Leeds for many years and holds a doctorate from the University of Queensland. His theological education was undertaken at both Dallas Theological Seminary and Denver Seminary in the United States.

Andrew comes from Adelaide in Australia and has in the past been the minister of a baptist church in Melbourne, Australia as well as having served, over the years, other churches in Australia, the United States and England in various capacities, including preaching and teaching and undertaking pastoral roles.

Mayor of Barnsley Coun Mick Stowe and Mayoress Elaine Stowe were on hand to offer him a welcome to the town.
