LOCAL schools and organisations raised a record-breaking £37,279 for Barnsley Hospice by completing the ‘elf run’ fundraiser.
In December, Barnsley Hospice set locals the challenge of putting on an elf hat and raising funds for the charity.
More than 9,400 ‘elves’ took part in the project.
A spokesperson for the hospice said: “Thank you so much to everyone who completed a run and those who supported them by donating.
“This total will make a real difference at the hospice and will allow us to continue providing specialist care to local people when they need it most.
“We’d also like to pass on our thanks to White’s Bakery Limited for sponsoring this event.”
