Having been denied permission by Barnsley Council, he appealed with the Planning Inspectorate, who then sided with the local authority. A report said: “The scheme is inappropriate development in the green belt, which is, by definition, harmful to it. It is also concluded that the scheme would harm the openness of the green belt.”

If approved, work to refurbish some aspects of the ‘dilapidated’ building will take place on Rotherham Road. A report states: “Some elements of the building are coming to the end of their useful life with signs of dilapidation identified internally and externally. The proposed works are required to renew existing elements making the building water tight and safe for future use by the community. Currently there is insufficient office and storage space within the centre and therefore the application proposes to provide a new single-storey, flat roof office extension to the north-facing elevation. All of the existing materials and colours will be to match the existing aesthetic of the original building as far as reasonably practicable.”A total of 12 neighbouring properties have been made aware of the application with no appeals to date. Public consultation ends on January 29.

PLANS to erect an external staircase to the rear of a Wombwell barber shop have been submitted to the council in a bid to add more chairs to the salon. If approved, the work will be completed at Top Cutz on High Street. A report states: “Planning permission is sought for an external metal powder coated staircase to the rear of the building. The barber shop has been very popular in the area and the need for additional chairs is only possible if the applicant removed the internal staircase. The first floor is currently ancillary use for the shop which includes a toilet, utility room with dryers in place.”Seven neighbouring properties have been made aware of the application with no appeals to date. Public consultation ends on January 25.
