POLICE are investigating after a fatal incident near a railway station this afternoon.

Officers were called to tracks near Chapeltown at around 2.30pm following reports of a casualty.

The incident caused trains between Barnsley and Sheffield to be cancelled for several hours, with Northern Rail providing replacement minibuses and buses for passengers struggling with the delay.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Paramedics attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
